Chinese Drywall and Health Problems: The Investigation Continues December 10, 2009
Many people who have been exposed to Chinese drywall claim that it has led to many medical conditions including breathing problems, nose bleeds, and headaches among others. To get a better idea of the health effects of Chinese drywall, the Consumer Product Safety Commission is leading an investigation. Although it took many months of consumers complaining, it is good to know that the Consumer Product Safety Commission is finally going to dig deeper into this problem.
As you can imagine, if Chinese drywall can cause health problems, which is believed to be true, this is a major issue. More than 100k homes in the United States were built with this tainted material. And guess what? More of them are being added to the list as each day goes by. In turn, this means the number of people exposed to Chinese drywall is also on its way up.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission released a statement saying it is, “leading the federal investigation and is working with other federal and state agencies to determine exactly what substances are in the drywall, what substances are emitting odors into the air and whether identified substances found in the air pose a safety or health hazard to families.”
It is difficult to believe that a material such as Chinese drywall does not have any negative health effects. It will be interesting to see what the study by the Consumer Product Safety Commission turns up in the months to come.
