City of Mandeville looking to Help Chinese Drywall Victims November 19, 2009
The Mandeville City Council is looking for as many ways as possible to help the many victims of Chinese drywall in the area. One such option that is being discussed is giving victims a break on the cost of the building permits needed to remediate the problem and make related repairs and upgrades.
Councilman Jerry Coogan said, “Right now there is no relief for them to look to.”
Coogan believes that local governments should step up since the federal government has yet to step forward and offer any form of relief. It will be interesting to see if more cities explore similar options.
The Mandeville City Council is hoping to pass an ordinance that would give victims a 75 percent discount to pull building permits. To qualify, the homeowner must submit documentation stating that their home is affected by tainted Chinese drywall.
