Crist on Chinese Drywall State of Emergency March 1, 2010

There has been a lot of pressure on Florida Governor Charlie Crist to declare a state of emergency on the Chinese drywall disaster. Although it is hard to say if this will ever happen, Crist took a big step forward when he addressed a group of protestors and said that he would look into declaring a state of emergency to deal with this problem.

What is the benefit of Crist declaring an emergency? Simply put, this would open up federal funds to help with repairs and relocation. As you can imagine, a lot of money is needed to address the thousands of homes in Florida that were built with Chinese drywall.

It should be noted that Crist did not seek out these protestors. Instead, they found him at an event taking place at the Cultural Center of Charlotte County. After hearing several pleas from the crowd, he stated that he would look into declaring an emergency.

Do protestors believe him? Some do, some don’t. But at least they had the chance express their discontent in person as opposed to more letters and emails.

What do you think? Is Governor Crist really going to consider this as an option?
