Indian River asking for Chinese Drywall Help February 10, 2010
Tcpalm.com recently wrote a great story on Chinese Drywall in Florida: Indian River to ask governor for help for residents with Chinese drywall.
On Tuesday, county commissioners began to ask for relief from this devastating problem. But they aren’t looking at their own county for assistance. Instead, in a 5-0 vote commissioners decided it would be best to ask Florida Governor Charlie Crist for assistance. They hope he will “activate all available state and local emergency relief resources and mechanisms.”
What are some of the resources that are available? For one, the Federal Emergency Management Agency could be tapped. The commissioners are also requesting that Crist contact help through FEMA and other agencies with available funds.
Chinese Drywall has been found in homes all over Florida, as well as more than 25 other states. The tainted material emits a toxic gas which can ruin homes and cause major health problems.
Indian River is not the first county to ask for help. It will be interesting to see how Governor Crist responds to this plea.
