While most personal property items that sustain damages contain metals (the metal corrodes from toxic compounds present in the air), clothing is now an item of concern for homeowners seeking remedies for their losses. The reason clothing can be considered a damaged item due to defective drywall, is that the sulfuric odor in some cases can not be removed – the clothing is thus useless.
After months of scientific testing, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) released the results of its investigation Thursday. The results: federal investigators found higher than normal levels of sulfur and strontium in Chinese drywall samples. As a caveat, the report did not conclusively link the health problems and reported damages that thousands of U.S. homeowners have reported to the agency with the drywall directly. Instead of an outright assertion, the CPSC said additional testing was needed and that a new report should be released at some point in November.
929,000 square meters of Chinese drywall were imported though Vancouver between 2001 – 2006. Canadian homeowners are having problems similar US homeowners affected by Chinese drywall, blackened wiring, eye irritations, repiratory problems.
